The ECG REVIEW Policy/Protocol

Most ECG’s are done on a routine basis.  If the on-call GP  has asked you to do one in an acute setting the on call GP will review this ECG.

If you have done an ECG and the following are present, please ask the on call GP to review otherwise the patient can go home.  Send a task to the GP who has requested the ECG for review and coding.

If you ask the on-call GP to look at the ECG still send a task to the requesting GP for review and coding.

When to ask on-call GP to review an routine ECG

  1. If the patient has chest pain
  2. If the patient is breathless
  3. If the patient has acute palpitations
  4. HR > 100 < 50 bpm
  5. The ECG diagnosis says infarct
